Okay… the monotony of rap music has got to stop! Hip-hop is at a tipping point and is awaiting the next big thing. Would it hurt to add a little substance to the art form? How about a dose of originality mixed with classic boom bap anthems to breath new life into this ever changing music.
Enter MNTLPLX (mental plex), an 88 golden child of hip-hop who developed his ear for music by listening to his dad’s old records. Childhood favorites included George Clinton, Kool & the Gang, Ohio Players, Grover Washington Jr., Michael Jackson and Isaac Hayes. A pioneer in his own eyes at the age of 11, he first gained respect as a beatboxer/MC at local talent shows with a group called the Young Syndicate. He got his first taste of producing while he was in high school, and started making mixtapes for local groups in the area.
His rhyme skills peaked between 1994-2000 while attending Virginia State University where he joined a rap group called Non*a*Mes. Along with fellow band members Leaf Qwembi, Yelseaux Lowd and Oplex, the group soon became known for their energetic live performances and booked over 100 shows which included shows with N.O.R.E, Jagged Edge, O.C. and DMP. The group was also the runner-up in VA’s Brawl for it all which included over 32 different rap artists.
It was soon realized that MNTLPLX needed a solo album. The RAProdisiac was created not only for PLX’s motivation, but for tired souls who thought originality and talent did not go together any longer in Hip-Hop music. The RAProdisiac is a collaboration of songs created during the turn of the 21st century made to combat the wack snap-and-pop rappers flooding the market today. He became overwhelmed with the wackness plaguing the market, and at his lowest point… came eye to eye with JigSaw. In a live or die situation, he chose life… and now is keeping a steady pulse for hip-hop to live.
Although not known to most in the music game, he is still creating relevant and essential music to this day and expanding his vast knowledge to solidify Planet Zoron’s movement. Close encounters of the fourth kind is eminent. Along with his fellow Zoronians, MNTLPLX will invade your eardrum with a new age classic boom bap triggering positive vibrations to move the soul. The coming is near earthlings… THIS IS NOT A TEST.
